Your child should receive their first dental examination around the time their first baby teeth erupt, or by their first birthday. Then we recommend bringing your child in for regular checkups every six months. When you visit Kiddie Cavity Care & Orthodontics for a checkup, here is what you can expect.

Full Examination: We will thoroughly examine your child’s mouth at every checkup. We will keep up with their changing dental health needs as they grow. If necessary, we will discuss any recommendations for further treatment including fillings, orthodontics, space maintainers or preventive treatments such as sealants and fluoride.

Professional Cleaning: Our hygienist will thoroughly clean your child’s teeth in order, and we may apply a topical fluoride treatment to your child’s teeth to make them stronger and more resistant to damage.

Digital X-Rays: Our office offers both bitewing and panoramic X-rays to get a complete picture of their overall dental health. Bitewings can determine the health of the teeth and bones and help us identify issues such as cavities and unusually-growing teeth. A panoramic may be taken every three to five years to check for missing teeth, extra teeth or other issues beneath the gum line.

Oral Cancer Screening: Early detection is crucial. During our gentle screening process, we will thoroughly check the entire oral cavity for any signs of cancer. We will also check the jaw and neck for any abnormalities.

While you’re here, we can also provide you and your child with oral hygiene instructions to help maintain good oral health between checkups. This may include hands-on demonstrations to help your child learn how to properly use a toothbrush, as well as tips so your child will feel good about taking care of their teeth.
